Azores:

The data that are on the basis of the occurrence and distribution of the four target species in the Azores were obtained from the MARÉ project (Management of the Azores Coastal and Marine areas). This project was financed by the European Union programme LIFE-Nature (LIFE B4-3200/98/509), and its results allowed the identification of resident populations of sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in the Azores.

However, the MARÉ project produced scarce information concerning to movements, migration patterns and relation between the several populations that inhabit in the archipelago.

Madeira: The “CetáceosMadeira” (Conservation of the cetaceans in the Madeira Archipelago” project is on its final phase.

Legenda

This project was financed by the European Union programme LIFE-Nature (LIFE99/NAT/P/006432), and its results give us information about the occurrence, distribution and relative abundance (for future monitorization) of the four target species in the Madeira Archipelago. However, the local studied area did not allowed to register the movements, migration patterns and relation between the several populations that inhabit in the archipelago

Canary: The European Union programme LIFE-Nature (LIFE97 NAT/E/004151) financed a project for the conservation of the loggerhead turtle (Carretta carreta) and bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) in the Canary Archipelago.

During the last years, the Local Environmental Body also supported studies to analyze the impact of Whale-watching and dolphin-watching activities, namely:
