A1 – Carry out a conference press to spread the project.
In Azores, Madeira and Canary;
A2 – Field work for photo-identification and collect skin
samples for genetic studies. In Azores, Madeira and Canary;
A3 – Carry out a Workshop to compare scientific information
– data basis about the cetaceans of the three archipelagos
and the photo-identification data (images). Select telemetry techniques
and equipment. In Canary;
A4 – Partners meeting for the project administrative/financing
control – it may be accomplished with A3. In Canary;
A5 – Perform a comparative analysis of the existent data
(mainly photo-identification images of the target species) of
the three archipelagos. In Azores, Madeira and Canary;
A6 – Workshop to define a common methodological protocol
for photo-identification, genetic studies and telemetry techniques.
In Azores;
A7 – Partners meeting for the project administrative/financing
control – it may be accomplished with A6; and discuss and
define the items to establish a Macaronesian Network for the Study
and Conservation of the cetaceans. In Azores;
A8 – Develop a web site to divulgate the project, with restricted
areas for partners, permitting change data and information and
facilitating cooperation work (specially administrative and financing).

A9 – Fieldwork using VHF/TDR transmitters on the target
species to study their movements and use of the habitat. In Azores,
Madeira and Canary;
A10 – Carry out an experimental campaign to follow sperm
whales (about 5 days at sea), with scientific researchers from
the three archipelagos, to study their movements and use of the
habitat. In Madeira;
A11 – Analysis of the results obtained during the project:
photo-identification, telemetry (VHF) and TDR’s. In Azores,
Madeira and Canary;
A12 – Analysis of the skin samples collected in the three
archipelagos (for genetic studies). In Azores, Madeira and Canary;
A13 – Final Workshop to analyze and discuss the results
